A real estate photographer is doing a different job

A real estate photographer is shooting a house to sell it. Wide angles, every corner, the whole room in frame, square footage. That is a good photograph and it is the wrong job. Nobody booking a weekend cares how big the second bedroom is on paper.

A guest is not buying the house. They are buying four days of their life, and they decide in about a second whether your place looks like somewhere they want to spend them.

Your first photo is a thumbnail, not a photograph

It appears in a grid with forty other properties, at the size of a playing card, and it has to stop someone scrolling before they read a single word of your title. Most of what makes a beautiful full-screen image does nothing at that size.

Airbnb shows a handful of photos before a guest has to click through, so the order they are in matters nearly as much as the pictures themselves. Most listings waste those slots.

What running our own listings teaches you

We manage homes on this coast and hold a 4.96 star average across more than 600 guest reviews. That means we see the part a photographer never does: which photos are attached to the listings that get booked, which ones make guests send a message asking what something actually is, and which ones nobody ever looks at.

We also know what guests complain about when the photo was not clear, which is its own kind of education. A picture that oversells a room costs you a star three weeks later.

We stage it first

The same way we stage the homes we manage before a guest arrives. Beds made to the standard, towels folded, surfaces cleared, lights on, the things that live on a kitchen counter put away. Most of the difference between an average listing photo and a good one happens before the camera comes out.
